Submission Guidelines
For all submissions please use our online submissions manager here: StoryTime Submissions
We welcome all African writers (writers born in Africa, or having domiciled in for over 10 years, and/or holding citizenship in an African country) to submit, in all fiction genres. The story must be an original work, nothing that infringes the copyright of, or is derived from, another author's work of fiction, is overly lewd, hate speech, etc.
Works submitted may be:
1) Short stories:
a) Must be unpublished (not previously published in print or online).
b) No simultaneous submissions (only submitted to StoryTime and no other publications).
c) No multiple submissions (submit only one work at a time).
d) Word count limits: 1500 - 8000 words.
e) Submission format: single line spaced, font Times New Roman 12pt, one line space between paragraphs, no indents, and set to UK English.
f) Translations: work may be submitted in any language only if accompanied by a full English translation.
g) All short stories accepted for publication in StoryTime automatically gain entrance into the selection process for our annual anthology 'African Roar'.
2) Book excerpts:
a) Must be published (or about to be released within three months of excerpt entry).
b) Please include all the following in your entry:
i) Excerpt.
ii) Author bio.
iii) Author bio pic (min 200px X 230px).
iv) The book's publishing details.
v) Front cover (min 150px X 230px).
c) Word count limits: 1500 - 5000 words.
d) Translations: work may be submitted in any language if accompanied by a full English translation.
e) Whilst we prefer fiction book excerpts, we are occasionally open to non-fiction and poetry book excerpts but please contact us first before submitting.
We are open for submissions year-round.
African Roar
All selections for our annual anthology African Roar are drawn from short stories published in StoryTime over one year between August - August.
